Camping Basics
First and foremost if you have any questions or concerns about camping ask somebody we will all be glad to assist you, there are no bad questions.
Group Camping
Usually when we camp as a pack it is at a group campsite. Group campsites are usually much cheaper than regular sites but have fewer amenities. Often group campsites will not have picnic tables or fire rings, so things like folding tables and camp chairs may be necessary.
Camping Necessities
Below you'll find some guides to help you choose your equipment and a handy checklist to give you an idea what you may want to bring. It's great if you can bring everything on the checklist but for people who are new to camping it can be a little overwhelming and expensive. So I'm including a short list of absolute necessities you must have to go camping with the pack.
Tent, with tarp to place under it
Bedding, sleeping bags air mattresses or cots.
Cooler, for your family's snacks and drinks
Personal Care items, sunscreen and insect repellent
Appropriate clothing, including closed-toed shoes
These items are the absolute bare minimum and are assuming someone else is bringing the food and cooking.

Important Camping Gear
TentsTents vary from one person to family tents. You can purchase tents from many different retailers, or you can borrow a tent from our pack families. We are always happy to help you set up your tent! We want the experience of camping to be fun and enjoyable for both scouts and parents!

Sleeping Gear
Sleeping bags are a must to have a comfortable night's sleep. Many sleeping bags are rated based on the weather and have ranges for how cold or hot the night will be. When purchasing a sleeping bag, make sure you double check the temperature rating.
Also, an air mattress or pad to separate you from the ground/bottom of your tent can help you keep warm and prevent moisture during the night. |
Personal Gear
Nothing says "I'm ready for camping" like a tent and sleeping bag, but you might want to bring additional items:
